Automatic Shift Lock or Engine Start Indicator Lightġ8. Engine Warning Light (Check Engine Light)ġ0. 18 Common Warning Lights on Your Car’s Dashboardħ. As long as the lights turn off within a few seconds, everything is operating normally. Many of these dashboard lights will illuminate briefly when you turn on your vehicle and performs a system check. If in doubt, consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual!Ģ. Every car is different, so the symbols on your dashboard may vary slightly from the ones on our list. Your vehicle will likely stop working or become damaged if you continue to drive.Īs you read through this list, here are two things to keep in mind:ġ. If a red mechanical light appears, pull over as soon as possible and figure out what’s going on. These warnings are less urgent than if you have a red and/or flashing light.Ī red light means that you should take action immediately! Some red dashboard lights are safety warnings (like a seat belt reminder) and others are mechanical (like the engine overheating). Orange/yellow warning lights generally signify that your vehicle needs to be serviced or repaired soon. When it comes to dashboard lights, colors matter! Green or blue lights simply let you know that a system is on or operating. Some have to do with vehicle features (like lights and cruise control) or safety (like blind-spot monitoring and lane departure warnings) or mechanical issues (like low tire pressure and engine temperature warnings). Not every symbol that appears on your dashboard is a warning light. However, it’s important to know exactly what these warning lights mean in case you need to pull over and call for help. Some symbols on your car’s dashboard are easier to figure out than others. You start to wonder what could be wrong with your car. Then change No to Yes and execute the change.Īfter you have made this change, you should get the fog light symbol when you pull-out the rotary light switch. We’ve all been there: You’re driving along, enjoying the views, and all of a sudden you hear a beep-you look down, and a symbol has appeared on your dashboard. Method 2 - Select coding from the Central electrics module and scroll down until you find LDS_mit_Nebel_Schlusslicht. Then "check" Bit 4 and execute the change Method 1- Select coding from the Central electrics module and press the 0-1 symbol at the top of the screen and navigate to Byte 7. OK - so there are two ways to change this: In your car, Bit 4 is NOT set (as you can see). If Bit 4 is set, the function "Light switch with rear fog lights installed" is enabled. ![]() The highlighted Bit is Bit 4 (count the bits from the right-side with the right-most digit being Bit 0). So, if I take your coding string above, which is from the Central electrics module and I separate it into Bytes/Bits, I get the values in the table below:įor the purpose of your question the pertinent part of the table is Byte 7 and in particular, the Bit which I have made bold and colored blue. The reason why I'm telling you this is because OBD11 (and all diagnostic cables) refer to "Bytes" and "Bits" when using the coding facility in a control module. Hex numbers can be translated into simple "Binary" numbers to show the values of individual Bits. When this is done, the Bytes are then viewed in what's called "hexadecimal" nomenclature. I'm not sure if you are aware of how the coding-string in control modules operate, but the string in your post above can be separated into Bytes by simply "pairing" the numbers together (in groups of two). I've truncated your post above in this response to just the data that I need to answer your direct question. Letzte Weckursache/ Werte : keine StörschutzursacheĪutomatic high beam assist: not activated It may be something else entirely, I don't know. If I can get it enabled, maybe I'll wire up an actual fog light and/or get the lighting error code to go away. It does not actually have a stock rear fog light by the way, but I'm trying to enable the rear fog light symbol in the dash display when the switch is pulled out 2 clicks. This is a non-lighting package base gti, USA version. I'm getting a light fault code and I'm hoping that I can remedy this by enabling the rear fog light. I've installed a euro switch with an aftermarket auto headlight sensor/module. ![]() I've been searching for some time now trying to figure out how to use my newly acquired OBD11 to enable the rear fog light on a mk7 gti.
